today i wanted to just talk real briefly about INSURANCE! these days we have to have insurance for just about everything: cars, health, vision, dental, life, earthquake, fire, etc. there’s even pet insurance now. which i laughed at initially…until my dog started costing me $100 every time he got sick. ugh. so, i shouldn’t have been surprised when someone told me that i needed to get insurance for my photography business, but i admit it wasn’t something i thought of initially. this is surprising considering what a paranoid person i can be 🙂 but in the whirlwind of starting a new business, i didn’t think about protecting all of that equipment that i had just invested in.
so, i highly recommend that you take a few moments to find an insurance plan that fits your needs. you never know if a memory card is going to fail or if your car is going to get broken into. not to mention, some venues actually require the photographer to have an insurance policy.
an awesome photog friend of mine referred me to Hill & Usher Insurance. they have a plan called Package Choice Insurance for Media Professionals. it is a comprehensive plan for a very reasonable price, so you should definitely check them out! just ask for Richard Reyes and he can get you set up in no time!
this is a topic we will go into more detail with in the First Year Photographer course, so be sure to check it out!
and i’d love to hear anyone else’s feedback regarding companies they have chosen for their photography insurance!
